Art Without Bounds

The Old Strathcona Arts Emporium opened on Whyte Ave and Gateway Blvd only two days after the first COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020. As much as this was a terrible turn of events for most businesses and Whyte Ave in general, it also had an unexpected silver lining. With more free time came more artists, and quickly, the new shop filled with some of Edmonton’s most beautiful artworks.

The space is packed with diverse pieces, from paintings to jewelry to clothing, all of which are crafted by artists ranging in age from 5 to 80. If you’re tired of the 9-5 or your brain is numb from studying, come down to the Old Strathcona Arts Emporium for a fun escape from the regular. Consider this your warning, however, that you are likely to fall in love with something there! It also feels good to know that the Emporium takes no commissions from the artists, so 100% of the money goes directly to a local artist.

The Old Strathcona Arts Emporium prides itself on being a place that supports Edmonton’s local art community by providing an affordable and convenient option for artists to display their works without all the hassle and expense associated with temporarily setting up at events and markets. Did you know that many artists experience a 15-20% damage or loss rate when transporting and displaying their goods to temporary venues? If you’re an artist, visit their website to learn how you could turn your passion into an income stream with the help of an expert.

Are you under 18, or do you know a young artist? The Arts Emporium sponsors youth to help them learn how art can be a business. Reach out to get involved at admin@sconaemporium.ca.
